| Opening Norton Ghost files in OS X?
My Windows PC died after a short illness, and I now have a Mac running 10.5. Most of my data were transferred before the PC's death, but some files are still in Norton Ghost archives on an external hard drive. Is there any OS X utility that will open and decode a Norton Ghost file? Rick |

If your Macintosh is Intel-based, you can install Windows either through Boot Camp as a dual-boot setup or you can install Windows in a virtualization program such as Parallels Desktop, VMware Fusion, or VirtualBox. Once you've taken care of that, you can install your Norton Ghost app and manipulate those Ghost files on that hard drive. You would probably have to remove that hard drive from the PC and either use a IDE/SATA-to-USB kit or an external hard drive enclosure connected either through USB or Firewire to your Mac.

Or depending on the exact format of Ghost, you could use VMware Converter to export that format to a standalone VM and use that with Fusion. (standalone Workstation VM, then rename the enclosing folder to [whatevername].vmwarevm and Fusion will see it as a Fusion VM) - Converter release notes will list all the supported formats.
