"serves" property in Netinfo /machines

I have edited the Netinfo /machines path to have an entry for "fr2". When I'm done it lists like this:
Code:
[localhost:~] admin% niutil -read . /machines/fr2
name: fr2
ip_address: 10.20.1.10
serves: fr2/local
My question is, what is "serves" and what rules should I follow in properly setting that property?
