    Well...

    1. Is mysql running?

    2. the other thing is: '/tmp/mysql.sock' doesn't seem to be where mysql puts the .sock file when it runs on os X. Go to mysql.com and do a search for 'my.cnf'. This is a config file that mysqld will read when starting and you can tell mysqld to use '/tmp/mysql.sock'
