Python Interpreter

Hi,
I have a 12'' powerbook, G4, tiger.
when i enter the python interpreter in the X11 terminal, i cannot type the letter 's' (I can type the upper case S, and it can print the letter s..) it doesn't even let me copy and paste (for example if i copy the word 'system', it will paste it as 'ytem'

I could go mad with this!!! help!
thanx,
Yasmine

Odd. DOn't know if this will work, but have you tried repairing permissions and then running Disk Utility after booting from the install CD to perform a repair on the hard drive?
