| what is necessary in the developer tools to compile
I want to install the developer tools on my older imac without alot of hard drive space and I know the developer apps folder takes up almost 500 MB and i dont ever really use those apps. What all in the developer package is needed to open up the features to compile *nix programs (like bitchx and ncurses and such). Do i just need to install the BSDSDK.pkg without all the extras or can i delete a bunch of stuff after i install and if so what all can i delete?

Install the Dev Tools CD, then you can delete /Developer if you really don't want anything other than the CLI compile stuff. That's the only place those programs are at. You might want to save the stuff that's in /Developer/Tools (those are CLI programs that pertain to the Mac OS, more or less) The other stuff is installed in other directories.
