how can i find where an installer put files?

I recently downloaded gimp-1.2.1_2.pkg from www.osxgnu.org in an attempt to set up gimp on my iBook running OS10.2.8 After the installation, I can't seem to find any files caled gimp and the only thing modified during that time were some basic plist files. Is this a bogus installer (that is, should I be concerned about malicious files), or am I not looking in the right place?

Try the command lsbom (list "bill of materials") on the bom file in the reciept for the package in the reciepts directory from the terminal. That should list all the installed items and files. Man lsbom for more details.
Best Regards
Andy
