Vmware Fusion Not Working.

Hi all. This is a question for VMWare support or their forums. I have asked there (in the forum) with no success and tried looking in support but that is a nightmare. So I am asking here with the hope somebody can help.

I am running a 21.5" late 2012 iMac with OS X 10.10.2 I also have Windows 7 on a Boot Camp partition. When I am using Windows, it operates fine. In order to switch from one OS to the other, I need to restart and select which OS at startup. I want to be able to switch OS's without rebooting. OS X is my primary but I would like to have Windows available to quickly switch over to_Of course it is completely impractical to reboot every time. I am trying to use VMWare Fusion v7.0 to do this but no matter what I do, I keep getting the same error message:
"The operation on file "/dev/rdisk0s4" failed. If the file resides on a remote file system, make sure that the network connection and the server where this disk resides are functioning properly. If the file resides on removable media, reattach the media.

Select Retry to attempt the operation again.

Select Cancel to end this session.

Select Continue to forward the error to the guest operating system.

None of these instructions help at all. A while back I had a similar setup that worked no problem. I can't see what is different now but it sure is frustrating. Any ideas or help? Any more info required from me in order to assist?

Thanks if you can.

That makes it appear that a file that VMWare wants to use is either on a remote disk (connected to a server), or that the file is no longer on the drive where VMWare thinks it should be.
Are you trying to use your bootcamp partition as the VMWare VM?
Your boot camp partition is on your iMac internal boot drive, correct?

When I search through the various forums that have a similar question - this is sometimes asked...
Do you see that error, and Windows has NOT booted...
Or, you see the error, and Windows appears to have booted (and the error might be produced by Windows, and not solely VMWare)?

Another question - Could it be related to a setting for file sharing? Do you have file sharing turned ON in Windows? Boot into Windows (Boot Camp), and check that setting.

That gives me something to work with. Yes I'm trying to get my BC partition as the VM. I'm not super under the hood savvy small words are best for me. I won't be offended :)

I assume you have a copy of the Windows install disk. Why don't you forget about the Windows partition and just install Windows through VM? It will create its own Windows VM where ever you want. I do this with Win XP and VMWare and it works great.

The Windows I have running on my Mac BC now is already well established. Work and programs. Can I make something like a recovery disk saved to a thumb drive and reinstall with all my applications intact? This is the main reason I'm not just starting from scratch. It was an obvious to me now oversight on my part not doing this in the first place.
