I just bought a new iMac and am unable to use the program iDress any longer with Snow Leopard to make address labels. I guess they are no longer in business because I am unable to contact them. I am interested in address labels and know that I can do this thru AddressBook but with that program am unable to make a page of the same name address labels. (ex. my name for return labels) I also want to be able to merge with AddressBook for Christmas lists etc. Any recommendations as to a good software program. I understand that I can do this thru iWork (Pages) but haven't figured that out or found where to download the right Avery templates for the Mac. (I looked but couldn't find what I wanted.)
Thanks,

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if doing the following is possible, and if so how.
I have a Mac Mini, which has attached to it a 750G Maxtor hard drive via USB. I've partitioned that drive. One partition has random stuff on it. One partition is for Time Machine.
I now have a new MBP, and want to back it up regularly using Time Machine.
All my machines are networked so i can mount any drive on any machine.
Is it possible to use that Time M partition as explained above, without having to disconnect it from the Mac Mini and connecting it into my MBP?

Thanks for the help and responses in advance.

I have a number of macs one being a G5 1.8 x 2 that has been running 10.3.9 for quite some time with no problems whatsoever. Decided to upgrade to keep in line with other macs but first just to 10.4. Machine only boots in safe boot mode. If regular boot, get message that I need to restart. Restart message reappears and often fans race. May have kernell panic but did hardware test, disk first aid and all hardware checks out fine.
Finally downgraded back to 10.3 and machine works fine. Did total clean install with 10.4 again and same results. Is there a firmware I need to upgrade, I can't find one. Please help. I have been working with macs exclusively since 1989 (never user a "PC") but I'm perplexed.

I recently bought my first Apple computer, an iMac. I have some old VHS format tapes that I converted to DVD. So far, so good. The DVD plays fine in the iMac, but the video isn't downloadable because it it in the Video_TS format. A very cool Apple tech support guy sent me your way; again, so far, so good. I found a thread about downloadable converters, and downloaded 'HandBrakeCLI'. It downloaded OK, but now I can't for the life of me figure out how to open both HandBrake and the DVD player at the same time to get it on the hard drive in order to in turn import it to iMovie.

I know just enough about iMac to be dangerous, only marginally better on my old PC based machine. Anybody out there who can give a computer challenged newby a few pointers?

MUST FIX: I CANNOT MOVE any icons or folders whatsoever (except to the Trash)! I checked the log too, but I have no idea what to look for there. This happened right about 1-2 days ago (11/20-22/2009).

BONUS FIX: As for iTunes, well it got bugged (clicked and didn't activated), so I deleted it and I don't know how to reinstall iTunes. This happened some years back, so I almost forgot about it.

Hi Guys,

I have a Windows XP, and on it, I sometimes play FPS (First Person Shooter) Games. The ones I play (*if you want to know which ones, I posted them below*) run OK on my current computer. Since my computer itself is quite slow, I decided to buy the new MacBook soon (Not MacBook Pro or Air, because I am still a student, and that would be too expensive for me)
My current PC has the Graphic Card [NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE] on it, while the new MacBook has [NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G] on it (Apple calls it [NVIDIA GeForce 9400M]).
I was wondering if I could still play my FPS Games on the MacBook, so my main Question is:
- Which of the two above named NVIDIA Graphic Card is better?
... and a sub-question:
- Is the better one better in all things?

Thank you already,

Display completely black

Specs: I have an IMAC G5 Power PC. The display is 20 inches and the processor speed is 2.0Ghz. I have 512 megs of RAM and 250 Gigs of hard drive space. I purchased the computer in the summer of 2005 and until now, it has worked like a gem.

Problem: My display does not show any picture or color. My wife told me she saw infared-like colors while using the computer and then it went completely black. I booted the computer in transfer mode and used my lap top to transfer all the files off the computer.

I then followed the troubleshooting procedures on the webpage http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2094. All the LED lights come on and I do not see any dim light when I examine my computer at an angle.

After the screen went blank, I purchased the VGA adapter cable and plugged in an external monitor to the computer, but I didn't get any picture on the external monitor, probably because the adapter mirrors what is on my screen. I had hoped I could completely transfer the picture to the external monitor, like you can do with a laptop, but I couldn't figure out how to do this.

Questions: What is wrong with my computer? Is is possible for me to use an external monitor even when the computer display doesn't display any picture? If so, how can I do this?

Thanks for the help.

Hello to all,

This is, I'm sure, a simple question, but I've been getting conflicting info on Google.

My wife and I have the newest MacBook Pros (well, mine is about a year old, but it's one of the "new" ones with the black keyboard and black trim around the screen).

I would like to migrate her profile from this, the older MBP, to her brand-new MBP, but am finding that it just won't connect via our wireless network.

I would like to give it a try with a firewire cable, but can't seem to get 100% agreement as to the one I need.

Can someone please let me know if I need the 9-pin version or the cable or something else?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,

We have several mac G4's running tiger.

They are setup to connect to an AD server using iHook.

I also have an xserver, but i'm not sure exactly what its configured to do, as i've only recently taken over from the previous network admin.

I can't work out how to set the global proxy settings that will affect all of my users. Is this a setting thats applied via the xserver, or is it something thats been manually configured locally?

How would i go about changing the global proxy settings, so that any user that logs in receives the same proxy settings?

Thanks,
