Installation: Terminal doesn't work

Hi. I am trying to install Adobe CS4. I bought it online and can only download it, don't have the cd-roms. I do have the serial number though.

Here's what happens:
I have to open Terminal, then type in sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /etc/hosts (done)

Then I have to type in my password (done. I did shell>new command, that's right, right?)

What's supposed to happen: TextEdit should automatically open a file, where I have to type more stuff in.

What happens: another terminal window opens, displays somthing like my user name=username (edit: to be specific, it says: Marie-Lastnames-MacBook-Pro:~ marie$)

What am I doing wrong? I never used Terminal before.

My MacBook Pro is only one day old, the system is OS X 10.6.

Photobooth Flash problem

I love photobooth dont get me wrong but why is it that whenever i have perfect lighting, photobooth uses it's flash to ruin my pictures countless times. If there was a way to turn flash on/off, like a toggle button, I'd find this application perfect. Is it too much to ask for an update that puts a flashtoggle on photobooth?

Time and Date, Aiport, and shortcuts in Finder all disappeared

Hey yall,

So this past week my Time & Date disappeared in the top right corner menu as well as my airport. On top of that, the shortcuts on the leftside of Finder have disappeared as well. I've relaunched Finder, shut down my computer and restarted it, reset my PRAM, reset my PMU, hunted down and removed the suggest corrupt preference files on my account, and created a new User, and none of this has worked (I've googled the problem to see what I could do to fix it). I'm running on a 1.5 GHz PowerBook G4 running OS X 10.4.11 on it. I have no idea how to fix this, and my experience with Macs have been once one thing fails, more are likely to follow so I'd like to catch and fix this before my computer crashes. Thanks!

Would this RAM fit my iMac?

Would this RAM card work with my iMac (late '06)? Currently I have two 512MB cards, and I want to replace one of them with the 2GB card shown in the link which = 2.5GB RAM in total.

Apple's specs for my iMac's RAM are:
667MHz DDR2
(PC2-5300) SO-DIMM

Also, is it okay to have unmatched RAM cards? I'll have an Apple 512MB and a 2GB running together. Will my RAM run in single channel mode if it's unmatched?

giant kdc.log - file

hello,

running os x server 10.5. on an imac constantly and without any issues for 2years now.

just found out that my HDD couldnt save any more files so i dug deeper and found out that the kdc.log file increased its size to (buckle up) 200 GIG.

of course it�s unsafe to remove it, because you have to rewrite it but as i am not such a crack i ask first:

does anyone have a routine to decrease the file size of the kdc.log file?

Random Logout Bug

While I am browsing the site I get logged out occasionally. For instance I just posted in another topic and it logged me out after I posted. It seemed to start less than a week ago.

Logic Express 9 and Jam Packs

I've just installed Logic Express 9 and was told that this would allow me to access and use my Apple Jam Pack Symphony Orchestra.

So far I can find now way to get this to appear in Logic Express.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

software install/update fail

hi,

software updates and installations don't work anymore.
i do get the "Install X items" button. and after clicking it, i can accept the license agreement but than nothing happens and i'm back at the screen where it says "Install X items".
normally the software update would request my password after the license screen but i doesn't anymore.

it works if i use another account though.
and i think i do have this problem since i upgraded to 10.6, but i'm not sure.

Can't get aliases to work...

Ok, this is pretty frustrating. I do know that on 10.6 I have bash.

Now, when I look at my .bashrc file at /Users/, I have this fun:

alias l='ls'

alias la='ls -a'

alias ll='ls -l'

alias lla='ls -la'

In theory, all should be well. However, when I restart the terminal and do ll, it says that the command is not found :( . Why? This _should_ work in my Linux box, but I have no clue what I'm doing wrong...

Any help is appreciated.

Installing windows error ... via Bootcamp

i am a complete newbie to mac world , just bought the new 15" macbook pro , when i tried installing windows with original windows xp disc sp3 version , the first part of loading the files to the system disc completed and then restarted as it normally would do when you are installing on a pc , but then it is showing a disk error and asking to press any key to restart.... how to overcome this....any help would be appreciated...Thanks in advance

imovie 09 really slow doing editing

what is wrong with my system? Imovie is using about 13% of the process in my computer, 85% of the cpu is idle. Imac desktop 2 GB ram 50 GB free space and the little color wheel keeps spinning for 10 min. or more just to do small small editing adjustments. It is larger movie file about 1 hr. long but I can't believe it should take so long to do editing.
