What exactly are you trying to do?

Things feel the same to me with my late 2011 MBP running from an SSD. Not sure what to tell you about finder - if you open Applications do you see the icons next to the app names?

Roger that. I've no input on the bluetooth issue - I only use it for a wireless keyboard.

With Safari up, navigate to Safari -> Preferences -> General and verify the location of "Save downloaded files to". Then navigate to that location via Finder - are your files located there?

Is email not an option?

Is the issue just with .dmg files? When you download other file types do they show up in ~/Downloads?
