    Mavericks, Apache and 403 Forbidden

There are two commands in that post - I ran both of them (the first has a typo - it's root:wheel, not root.wheel). No effect. Also looked at the log - nothing significant there. The second post is for "updating to OS X Mavericks" - this is a new computer with Mavericks built-in. No...

    Mavericks, Apache and 403 Forbidden

Just a note - ran ps aux | egrep '(apache|httpd)' to see what user Apache is running as. I got 4 lines of output - the first three with _www and the last with root. If that helps any.

    Mavericks, Apache and 403 Forbidden

I'm setting up a colleague's new MBP running Mavericks and having a hard time getting the webserver working properly. Following various posts elsewhere I got MySQL installed and running, enabled PHP in httpd.conf, allowed access by "all" in that file as well, but when I created a phpinfo.php...

Iomega NAS drive - Windows XP can't write to folders created from Mac

DeltaMac - yes, I do seem to be able to write to folders created on the Windows machine, so that may be the way to go. Satcomer - when I Get Info on a folder created either from the Win box or from the Mac, Sharing and Permissions say "You have custom access", with no options to change or...

Iomega NAS drive - Windows XP can't write to folders created from Mac

I'm using an Iomega Storcenter IX2 NAS. When I create folders on it from my Mac, our user on a Windows XP can't write to those folders. When I browse to the folder on the Windows machine and look at properties, it is set to Read Only. I can uncheck this box (well, it has a green square, not a...

Slow performance on Iomega Storcenter IX2 NAS box, vs. Mac server

Satcomer, do you mean "You obviously are too full of your (not sure this 'your' is necessary - who else's would I be full of?) ignorance to..." and "So watch the quick video"? Also you should capitalize "Then" after a period. My apologies if I'm telling you things you already know, but then...

Slow performance on Iomega Storcenter IX2 NAS box, vs. Mac server

Turns out this is a poky device after all. One of the drives failed and had a nice chat with support. They said it's pretty low on RAM and a pretty lightweight processor. Apparently their PX series is a lot better appointed in both areas. We got what we paid for. It's adequate but at some point...

Slow performance on Iomega Storcenter IX2 NAS box, vs. Mac server

Yes - using a Cisco gigabit switch. Pretty simple network - no other steps between me and the NAS. SMB definitely faster (once connected) but still disappointing compared to the old Tiger Mac-as-a-server, which felt pretty much like a directly connected drive. There must be something about...

Slow performance on Iomega Storcenter IX2 NAS box, vs. Mac server

The drive is RAID 1. I have been using AFP, since I thought since it supported it that I should do it the "Apple way". However I just started using SMB and it seems faster - though slow to connect initially. Should that be my experience? Also if I use SMB will I not write all these MACOSX...

Slow performance on Iomega Storcenter IX2 NAS box, vs. Mac server

In my old home office I was using an old Powermac G5 running Tiger (not server) as a local fileserver, connected to our network via a gigabit switch. I was able to work directly on files off the server - pretty big photos, Photoshop documents, zipping/unzipping files - with very little perceived...

Lion Finder sidebar links keep not working

Perhaps we have to create our own "sidebar", as a folder full of aliases organized like we would organize our sidebar. Ahh the joys of a new OS...

Lion Finder sidebar links keep not working

What is also interesting - aliases to the networked drive continue to work, including aliases I put in Finder window toolbars. It's just the sidebar links that don't work. I am using Sharepoints on my Tiger "server" (not really a server but using it as such). At least some of the affected links...

Lion Finder sidebar links keep not working

The links always mount my networked drive if it's unmounted. And/but, in this case, the drive IS already mounted. I can get to it by going to its icon in the sidebar and clicking my way in. But once the sidebar links die they just stay dead, even if I dismount/remount the server. Only a restart...

Lion Finder sidebar links keep not working

This is driving me crazy. My sidebar links to various locations on our office server keep not working - they just reload the current finder window. Links to the local machine do work. After a restart the remote links work again - but eventually, at some point, for some reason, they stop working...

    Is Nolobe (Interarchy) dead?

Sorry about that. Did get your email today and looks like all is well. Glad to hear the new version is forthcoming!

    Is Nolobe (Interarchy) dead?

I upgraded my Interarchy 9 to 10 late last year. The new version of this venerable FTP program looked great, but was missing certain key features that version 9 had. I emailed the company several times with no response, and now, 6 months later, there appear to have been no updates to the...

Font size big in both Firefox and Safari

A web dev client of mine was complaining about the site we built her, and sent over some screenshots. It appears her font size is about two sizes larger than "normal" in both Firefox and Safari. I had her reset it to normal in Firefox - no change, apparently the setting wasn't made in Firefox...
