    total time operating

-uptime. Thanx for this tip. But, I wondered whether there's a way to determine absolute total time that the computer has been up since new (not since restart).

    total time operating

Does anybody know of a way to determine the total number of hours a computer has been up/on/operating -- since new? Is this information logged anywhere? In advance, thx.

Internet Explorer for Mac os 10.4.11

Your video seems to run OK for me. I was able to download it too, to watch. I'm using Safari on a powerbook g4. I have flip4mac, as well as perian plugins (or whatever they're supposed to be called) on my computer.

Battery won't charge, and other problems

How old is your battery? As far as I know, the batteries have a shelf life as well as a cycle count life. Last year, I had something similar -- the count was about 250 or 300, I don't remember the age of the battery. My only solution was to replace the battery... and, I did chase other...

    AirPort speed

I'm no expert on wireless hardware, but I would think that it's probably your router. The 802.11b specification is somewhat old. From wikipedia: 802.11b has a max data rate of 11 Mbit/s. 802.11g has max of 54 Mbit/s. These are both, as far as I know, far slower than your ethernet. An...

    iDisk sidebar eject button

More fuel... Here, USB keys get this famous sidebar eject button at random... sometimes it's there, sometimes not. It used to be regular -- USB keys *always* got the eject key. If anybody *does* come up with a solution or reasoning for this, I would like to hear it. Same thing for me --...

    safari icon

Is it possible that it's the application itself, not just the icon, that resides on the desktop? If this is the case: Drag the Safari from the desktop to the Applications folder (where it should be anyway, in my mind). Then, drag the icon to the dock.

device not charging via USB port

The little thing is just a magnetic/electric shield. If you were to remove it and open it, you would find that it houses (one or two) magnets that would surround the cable. I doubt that it would cause the difference -- but I really don't know. I would think that you might be able to get a...

Switching to a different Spaces window via a command in a shell script?

This doesn't answer your question directly. But, if your goal is to use keystroke entry method to switch between spaces windows, select a keyboard short cut from within System Preferences.

    Safari 3.2

Thx for all your help. Repair permissions didn't resolve the issue. I had AcidSearch 0.7b3 plugin -- it's great, by the way. Removed it and it fixed the problem.

Safari 3.2 crashes *every* time I try to open a second tab. If anybody has this problem and manages to resolve it, please post your solution! T

core i7 in macbook, macbook pro?

Recent update, in my mind, was strong on cosmetics, weak on computing power -- but this is just a view from 30,000 feet opinion. Yup, it was probably best possible what hardware tech is available. I just wondered if anybody has any idea about what's next. Thx to all who responded.

core i7 in macbook, macbook pro?

Thx. I'm somewhat disappointed by the recent update of macbook pro -- looking/waiting/watching for something more significant.

10.5 First impressions - post yours

Leopard works great for me. Generally, seems faster than Tiger. WiFi signal is far stronger. DVD burning seems to have been limited to 2x (maximum). However, my drive was spec'd as 8x (maximum). I haven't done any digging to solve this problem. My computer is a G4 1.67GHz with 2Gb RAM.

Thank you. I have already checked in the keychain -- there is nothing obvious to indicate my telephone modem password. Any other ideas?

    retrieve telephone modem password

Hello, I have setup (a couple of years ago) connection settings for my internal telephone modem -- my computer is a powerbook G4 with OS10.4.9. Now, I would like to set up another computer with the same connection. But, I cannot recall the password. It is stored somewhere on the first...

How to get a stuck CD or DVD out of a macbook

That would seem like a design/construction flaw and a warranty item. Did you contact Apple Support/Warranties or the store from where you bought it?

    Mac OS X 10.5 ideas

Neat ideas Cyprus. In particular, I like the one about iChat -- it would be nice to use it to communicate with other chat programs.
