    Connection Failed on logout

Users on our some of our Mac clients have started being unable to logout without power cycling the machine. They get an error message 'Connection Failed' when they try to logout. Clicking OK just brings it back again. There is no indication which server or service is the problem. On the...

User Can Not Login At Server Location

I am having this problem as well 10.5.8 server and clients, tho. Some users (created a while ago) can login fine, newly created users can't, with stated error as above. In your cases, the first thing I would do is upgrade your server to 10.5 ...

    Window 2003 server issue.

I am no great expert, but I think that you need Apple Open Directory (i.e. have an xserve with OD enabled) integrated in with Active Directory to help you manage the Macs. Maybe? Should be fairly easy to integrate these days if up to date OS X 10.5 or 10.6?

Logging In To The Account Failed

For what it is worth - it seems I have the same problem. Also on 10.5.8 (client and xserve). Active Directory is Windows Server 2003 level. Exact error message is: You are unable to login to the user account "{AD logon name}" at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error...

    Users logging in...

What version of OS X? Is the AFP server an xserve? Have the user directories got the correct permissions? I'm having similar login problems with recently created accounts (but no reference to AFP/SMB in error message). Older accounts are logging in fine, no difference can be found in accounts on...

    User Accounts can't log on

I'm seeing the same problem on two 10.4 client machines from a 10.4 xserve - clients seem to be configured exactly the same as other machines that work. We've had the problem before and fixed by tinkering with repairing file permissions in Disk Utility, but this hasn't done anything this time.

    Imaging Error 16

I'm seeing something similar when trying to restore an image to a volume on a new drive using Disk Utility on Mac OS X 10.4.11 - Restore Failure An error (16) occurred while copying. (Resource busy) Tried with volume mounted and dismounted - same. Any ideas what's wrong?

    DHCP not working

DHCP used to work on our eMacs - now it doesn't! As a work round I've reset to static IP addresses for now, but would like to go back to DHCP if possible. From web searches, it seems there are 'issues' with the Apple DHCP client, but haven't seen reports of anything this drastic. PCs (Win XP &...

    categories

Is it my imagination or are the categories you are given when you submit a question totally different to the forum organisation? E.g. there is no category for network problems when submitting, but there is a forum for network problems - ?

Update to 10.4.7 fails with NSURLErrorDomain -1005

Mac OS X 10.4.6 (PowerPC) installed by CD onto PowerBook G4 OK, but update to 10.4.7 fails with a NSURLErrorDomain -1005 error. Other updates work OK however. Retry - download starts OK and gets part way in and then comes up with the same error. Presumably the error means it looks for a site...

    breaking xserve software RAID mirror

I want upgrade our xserve from 2 x 250GB mirrored discs running Mac OS X 10.3.9 on xserve to running 1 x 250GB system disc (keeping other as spare) and 2 x 500GB mirrored data discs. (Then upgrade to Tiger). Can I break the software mirror with: diskutil destroyRAID /dev/disk{x} or does...

    Network printing

I've taken another look at my printer setups and point 2 I think I can now answer myself - at least in part. The Canon i9950 isn't listed on the supported printers for Mac OS X (Tiger or Panther), so it is using a generic postscript driver on machines connecting via the network. This explains...

    Network printing

We have 6 eMacs running Panther and 2 running Tiger. One of the Panther eMacs has a Canon i9950 local printer (very good!) and another has an older HP DeskJet 1220C. I've shared the printers as network printers and installed them on each eMac. They kind of work, but users complain: 1) When...

Xserve Goes to Sleep & Tar Chokes On Large File

I've just added a LaCie firewire external hard drive to our xserve to make a backup of data. It seems fine and auto-mounts as /Volumes/LACIE. I have no graphics card or remote desktop, so in an SSH session, I then tried tar'ing our /Users folder to the external disc with gzip included: tar...

[HOWTO] - Enable Root Login to Mac OSX
