    minidisc and OS X

You cannot make recordings with an iPod, can you? That's what's the nice thing about a minidisc, the recordings are really great! I'd love to be able to put those on a cd easily, preferably over the digital cable, that would give the best quality.

    minidisc and OS X

Yeah, or what about the other way around: capture the digital output of the minidisc and burn a cd from it! How does one do this? What kind of cable and software would I need? Thanks! noordkmp

    Disk Copy 6.4

Ha great! Would you please mail me (noordkmp@mac.com) a copy of 6.5? I'm having problems with an image that doesn't want to mount. It contains very important data, and someone suggested I should try 6.5 for this.

    Disk Copy 6.4

Get it from Greg Hall's iDisk at http://homepage.mac.com/hall/FileSharing.html . And what indeed is its status? I really like it, but why is it so hard to find? I'd love to see its functionality in OS X's Disk Copy.

    Damaged .img file

I have a very important disk image that won't mount... When I try, OS 9 tells me "this disk cannot be read", and asks me if I'd like to initialize it. Well of course, I don't, I want the contents back! Is there any way in which I can at least recover some of my files? Help!

    latex to pdf

I think I found it. When I TeXed your source I noticed metafont had to make pk-files for every single font used. That's of course because you ask for this non-standard encoding in the second and the third line. This forces TeX to use the ec fonts, and to rasterize them from their metafont...

    latex to pdf

Okay, what about the rest? I'm interested in those three little dots you put there... :) Let's see the complete .log file! Why don't you post the .tex file you were processing? I'll pdfTeX it as well, and we'll compare the .log files.

    edit predefined user folders

The template for it is in /System/Library/UserTemplate/YourLanguage.lproj. I guess you can change it as much as you want.

    ssh under OS X.1.2

I had some trouble with SSH as well. The easiest solution seems to be the commercial SSH from SSH Communications Security, which is free for non-commercial purposes, like mine. I downloaded the source code at commerce.ssh.com; it compiled very easily out of the box, and was installed in...

    10.1.2 Installer no longer working

Hi Ed. I've never seen a Spruiell in Holland, though the ui combination is very Dutch. The double ell could be old Dutch spelling, we don't use that anymore at the end of a word. Of course we would pronounce your name completely different from sprool, but every Dutch name in the US gets a...

    10.1.2 Installer no longer working

I haven't tried this myself, but I should say you could use Pacifist for this. See Versiontracker: http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=12743&db=mac noordkmp

What Kind Of Music Do You Like ?

Particularly fond of Bach, Mozart and Schubert. As a matter of fact, there isn't much music I like that's been written after 1900 or something . I won't put it as bluntly as I mean it though :D. aiBoek

    stupid Unix Users stuff...

You could use PuzzlePalace. There's more utils like that, I'm sure. See Versiontracker. Perhaps it's a good idea to start using pgp or gnupg. Another way would be an encrypted disk image. You can do this with Disk Copy.

    stupid Unix Users stuff...

Why don't you just encrypt your most important stuff?

Mouse suddenly extremely slow + unable to kill some apps

Hm, I don't think there's a specific app involved, but I haven't checked whether something was using a lot of cpu at that time. I will if it happens again. It always comes very suddenly, it doesn't slow down gradually. Thanks for the tip! More ideas very welcome though.

Mouse suddenly extremely slow + unable to kill some apps

The following happened to me four or five times now. I use 10.1.1 on my iBook with 256 RAM, much to my satisfaction :), but sometimes the mouse pointer all of a sudden gets very, ve-ery slo-o-ow, a lot slower than the slowest setting in the System Preferences: I move my finger over the pad...
