Sorry I didn't make myself clear. Wouldn't fsck be more appropriate than defragging, if he is having hard drive problems? I have never had to defrag a unix machine, but fsck can be helpful correcting filesystem errors.

another recently active thread (geek message) confirmed to me that osx has the old unix disk utility fsck. Would this be a solution for you?

The nvidia graphics will really help those using linux as well. ATI support is not good for linux. I'm wondering how long it will be before the upgrades trickle to the macbook. I just bought one (doh!).

linux and freebsd are not the same, though they may share many apps and gui desktop and gui applications.

I agree with using cat6 and using a dedicated router over making the g3 as a gateway/router. In general, you don't want your server to be the gateway because it is harder to compromise your server.

Have you tried disabling the firewall to see if that is blocking things?

If it is all under "home" then just remove home and make a new one.

I had always assumed it is becuase the timestamp is the only change to an existing file is why it got its name.
