At present, we have a PC on our DSL line and I would like to add an eMac. Problem is, it can't be hardwired to a router, it must be wireless.

So if I buy a Linksys or other wireless router, I'll need some sort of adapter that will allow the eMac to pick up the signal from the router.

Question: Does the eMac need an internal Airport card to pick up the signal, or, can I use one of the USB adapters found in the retail stores?

Note: The eMac does NOT have an Airport card currently.

Thanks- S

Thanks for using MacOSX.com.

I'd highly recommend staying away from the USB adapter. I have one on my TiVO, it works great. But... I'd go with a Ethernet to Wireless device. This is seperate from your Mac, so you don't have to worry about drivers and what not.

I am not recommending this particular model (it might be fine) http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=241 but that will give you an idea of what I am talking about.

What is nice about something like this, is that while it might cost more up-front, it will work better over-all and then you just use standard ethernet connection. Makes it nice if you ever want to hook up another Mac or computer, you can talk to each other over ethernet (really fast) while both systems can now use your wireless bridge to connect to your main base-station.

My 10 cents worth. I did read someone had success wiht a "Belkin F5D6050". But it is a "b" adapter.
