Hi, I've just bought an Epson Stylus CX3650 and everything works fine (scanner etc.), but I cannot find the printer. When I go to print an everyday page of normal writing I cannot choose the CX3650. I'm using mac OS 10.39. Any suggestions? Paul

Repair permissions (Disk Utility), Delete Print Prefs - search for files (File>Find) that start with com.apple.print and delete them all. Restart the Mac. Delete and re-ADD the printer in Printer Setup Utility.
Or, is it possible that you didn't ADD in Printer Setup yet?

Thanks a million for replying. You're right. I've ADDED nothing. But that 's because I quite simply can't. It says in the Instructions that on Restarting you then have to go into Applications > Utilities > Printer Center (or Utility for Printer Configuration) and then ADD. Yet in Utilities I can find nothing of the sort.

You're looking for Printer Setup Utility (Print Center is the old name). You can also access this from the Print & Fax Prefs pane in System Prefs.

I tried that. It won't configure anything for me. Also, I did a search for Printer Setup Utility, and nothing came up. Maybe I threw something away one day during an overzealous clean-up of my mac.

There's a utility called Pacifist on Versiontracker.com that helps you install individual files from the Panther CD/DVDs.

You're the greatest. What should I download exactly?

Download the program Pacifist. When you run the program, it has you put the Panther CDs/DVD in and it indexes them, so you can choose exactly which file you want to install -- Printer Setup Utility.

But my system update to Panther (I presume you mean OS 10.3.9?)was automatic: I don't have any CD/DVD's.

I don't have the Console application. Printer Setup Repair is asking for it.

Paul,
It sounds like you deleted several important things.
I recommend you reinstall OS X using the Archive and Install option in the installer, then use the Combination Updater (download from Apple) to update to 10.3.9.

DONE! DONE! DONE! It workks!! I did as you said in an earlier message. First, I downloaded Print Setup Repair; then I transferred Console from my wife's Apple and Print Setup from her preferences (I had deleted both!). Then I ran PSR and repaired all permissions. Then I deleted all printer files (again using PSR, but first making a Backup) and then Restarted. Hey presto, I turn on the printer, inserted the USB and Added. Bob's your uncle.
Okay, now what can I do for you? Apart from inundate you with new customers (I'm going to tell absolutely everyone that you exist).
Cheers, and thanks again. Paul

I'm glad it worked out!
(I'm nearly inundated with customers - thanks.)
