I'm having problems installing Mac OS 10.3.5 on a new Hard Drive I purchased.
I get this message:
There were errors installing the software.
How can this be its brand new Hard Drive, a Brand New Panther CD Install CDs.
I'm using a Power-Mac G3 Blue, 300MHz.

Messiah,
A new hard drive needs to be formatted before you can install the OS.
How large is the new hard drive? You may need to partition the drive and install OS X on the first partition.
Restart the computer (hold down the power button until you hear the start up chimes) and immediately hold down the c key.
Do not click on the installer screen. Instead go to the Installer menu (at the top of the screen) and select Disk utility.
When that opens click on the first hard drive icon in the side bar at the left, then click on the Erase tab. Select Mac OS Extended format and click on the Erase button. You may be warned that this will totally wipe your drive. Click on okay.
When done, click on the First Aid tab and have it repair the drive.
When done, quit Disk Utility and proceed with the install.
Let me know how you do.

Messiah,
How large is that new hard drive? What brand is it? (Seagate's large drives, larger than 120 GB, do cause problems).
Start up with the OS CD and use Disk Utility to partition the drive (partition tab). Give the first partition 10 GB.
After formating, install OS X on the first partition.
Let me know how you do.

Messiah,
I am assuming that you did, at one time have OS X installed on the Blue & White.
Double check the CD you are using. Make sure it does not say iMac, or another model computer. Check to make sure there are no scratches or smudges on the shinny side of the disk. If there is a scratch, you will need to replace that CD. A scratch can cause the problem.
When you installed the hard drive, did you make sure the ribbon cables were snug in the ports? Did you make sure it was set to Master drive in the jumpers?
Those jumpers are between the ribbon cable port and the power post on the drive itself. There should be five sets of pins and covers or bands should be around the second set and the last set. It is then set to Master drive.
If it all checks out, then, while this is rare with a new hard drive, the drive is defective. Call the place where you purchased it from and explain the problem. Make sure you remember to point out that you have formatted the drive several times only to get the errors installing the software.

Looks like it is not even starting up anymore. I tried unplugging everything from the motherboard and plugging it back.
It's not powering up anymore.

Messiah,
Unplug the computer from the power source and let it rest for five minutes.
After the five minutes, plug it back in.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
The computer should start up.
If not, it is time to take it to an authorized Apple tech. Because I am not sitting in front of your computer it is hard to determine exactly what piece of hardware is failing.
