I've got weird fonts showing up all over the place. Dreamweaver doesn't completely open. AOL shuts down. I found an application that cleans my 'font cache' but the problems comes right back.

Slowly the font problem is disabling lots of important information. It's propagating through all my applications. Am I simply suppose to wait to Apple addresses this? Am I screwed. Someone please give me some help here.

Please provide some additional information:

1. What Mac model are you using?
2. How much RAM is installed and what is the size of the hard drive?
3. How much free space is available on the hard drive?
4. How did you install Tiger: Erase and Install, Upgrade, Archive and Install?
5. If one of the latter two what version of OS X were you running?
6. Did you repair the hard drive and permissions before installing Tiger?
7. Did you disable, remove, or upgrade all third-party software that was not Tiger compatible?
8. What do you mean by "weird fonts showing up all over the place?" Please be more precise.

Your problems are not likely due to any malfunction of Tiger, but more likely caused by problems that already existed and have now been exacerbated by trying to install Tiger before these other problems were addressed.

If you can still bootup and access your hard drive there's hope. However, you should consider backing up any personal data you need to save in case the only solution to your problem requires reformatting the hard drive.

In my Dreamweaver application, i see things like look like symbols. It's appearing all over the place now. I was just trying to upload a new home page to a website and it was showing these symbols in all windows of my Fetch program. It's like all the system software uses the same font. It's replacing this font with some weird font. I CAN type something and when I hit enter, it enter exactly what I typed. But as I type, I don't see what I'm typing, I'm seeing these weird symbols I've never seen before in 12 years of using macs.

This could be the reason for the problems. The hard disk and permissions repairs should have been done before upgrading.

7. Did you disable, remove, or upgrade all third-party software that was not Tiger compatible?
I'm not even sure what that means.

It means that if you upgraded to Tiger and have incompatible software installed beforehand, that incompatible software can be causing Tiger to misbehave, and could have caused problems during the installation. This would be especially a problem if you have virus software installed like Virex or NAV and did not disable it.

I'm afraid I don't know what the font problem is unless you have some duplicate or incompatible fonts installed.

I suggest that you backup what you need, then reformat the hard drive and reinstall Tiger from scratch.

Since you last response. I ran permissions. I then reinstalled the Tiger Software. It seems as though this fixed everything. I did just attempt to open my AOL application software and it closed immediately. This was one of the problems that I remember experiencing at the start of all these problems. I hope it isn't starting the cycle again.

By the way, I do remember deleting a font BECAUSE it was experiencing this problem. I might have done something wrong. Thank you for your help. This website is truly generous in it's offering. I'm telling all my friends about you guys.

THANKS!
