This message appears when I open Mac Mail:

The mailbox [quote]~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/Outbox.mbox {quote] is currently locked by [quote](null)[quote] on host [quote][quote]. If you open a mailbox that already is in use, you may damage its content

I found a similar message on a forum, but the suggested solution did not work because my >home folder>library>mail folder did not contain a folder about envelope.

I have an iMac, using OS 10.3

Karen,

Per chance were you trying to send out an attachment? It could be that Mail is choking on that piece.

Go to Home->Library -> Mail -> Mailboxes -> Outbox.mbox. You should have a couple of files and a folder. Open the folder and delete all the messages in there.
Also trash the info.plist file.
Close the window and empty the trash.

Now open Mail and see if you still get the message.

If you had a message in that outbox that had an attachment, check the name of the attachment. Long names tend to create this problem. Give that file a short name and give it another try.

Let me know if this helps.
Cheryl
