After installing the game on my iMac (G3 450MHz), I receive this error when I try to run the app "The Sims Carbon" - version 1: unrecoverable error, Error code = 17

Any clues or ideas??
Tks in advance.

Hello Alexandre,

Can you tell me more about your system? What OS is installed? How much RAM? Have you tried reinstalling the game? Did you update the Sims with the latest updates from Aspyr's Sims support page?

I'm running a Mac OS X.3.9 in a iMac G3, 450MHz with 256MB of RAM and 13GB in hard-disk. I've got no OS 9 installed - so I'm trying to run the app ("The Sims") from it's carbon version.

I tried the update you've told me (tks for the tip!) but it didn't work thou - actualy, I tried only the "The Sims Carbon Installer" and I still get the error code 17. Is it a filesystem problem - as I read out somewhere?

Tks a lot for your response.

It's possible there may be a file system issue. Are you using the same user which installed the Sims. Where is it installed? One thing with OS X is that permissions can play a big role in how games operate. It is typically recommended that games not be installed in /Applications if the application has to write to anything within the folder in which it is contained or subfolders. I would recommend installing games in a separate folder like /Games. Also, please ensure that you have full read and write access to The Sims folder. This is important because you must be able to write inside the Sims folder structure.

How much free disk space do you have? Have you tried repairing permissions and repairing the disk? If not, you should try doing both. Start up with the 10.3 install disk and run Disk Utilities from it to repair the permissions and disk. If none of the above work you may have to contact Aspyr directly. They have a form at their website you can fill out for support.
