Whenever I launch AOL the splash screen opens, then I see the message "Initializing...". Just after the message appears the application crashed and the standard OSX dialog appears with: "The application AOL has unexpectedly quit. "
This has just started happening. I have re-installed AOL for OSX, but this did not help.
Thank you,
John

I suggest trashing AOL preferences from your Home>Library>Preferences folder and trying again. If it works, I then suggest considering using the AOL Service Assistant to transfer your data to the Apple applications and using them instead of AOL for your full Internet experience. Are you open to such wild possibilities?

Ben,
I ran Disk Utility and repaired permissions. Then I trashed the preferences. No joy. Same symptom.

What about reinstalling the application or trying to run it while logged in as a different user?

Reinstalled AOL and it crashed when Initializing Databases.
Created a new user, logged in him. AOL crashed as usual.

Seems to be some problem with one of the other files associated with AOL. In Mac OS X, they're stored in the Users>Shared folder. I don't know which file, though.

Oh happy day. I backed up, then removed Users>Shared>America Online. AOL launches and signs in! Now I need to find the file (s) that is bad.
Thank you for your help.
