DESCRIPTION:
I loaded AOL and then went through the drive "C", and manually deleted the folders I seen. It still shows Up in the "Ad/Remove programs" folder and the "Sounds". How Do I get rid of them to save disk space?
Thank you,
Chad
Hiya Chad
Well, you know what your first mistake was - you should have used 'Add/Remove Programs' in the first place to delete your AOL installation.
If AOL still appears in your 'Add/Remove Programs' option in Control Panel, use the Remove option here - AOL is usually pretty good at cleaning itself up. However, you may find that, if you've manually deleted the AOL root folder, that this option fails. In that case, we'll need to do some more manual deletions and some tinkering with the Windows Registry. If you're happy to have all traces of AOL removed from your system, click on START->Run - in the box that pops up, type in REGEDIT and press the Enter key.
When the Registry Editor screen pops up, click on "Edit" in the top menu bar, then on "Find...".
In the box that pops up, type in 'aol' [without the quotation marks] and click on "Find Next". For each reference that comes up, click the "Edit" option and then the "Delete" option. Then click "Edit"->"Find Next", and continue until you have all references in the Registry to AOL removed.
There may be some more manual file deletion required after this - let me know, and I will email you further instructions.
Please email me direct if you encounter any problems, or require a follow-up to your question.
