I have a G3 Pismo running OS 10.2.8, up until two weeks ago everything was fine. All of the sudden I lost my Wireless connection to my Netgear WG302 AP. All I get is a signal strength bar and that is it. I have tried to reset the Access Point several times but no luck. I also did a complete reset and even that did not do anything.
However I can connect to the Internet thru the Ethernet cable.
Also whats ironic is that I have other Powerbooks that are also connecting via this AP, and they all seem to function just fine.
I have checked and rechecked all settings including disabling WEP, and enabling SSID, etc. I have also downloaded the recent apple update for the card version 4.1.
I am stumped at this point and am about to throw in the towel. Any suggestions from this board will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Samad

Hey samad,
what sort of wireless card are you using in that machine? does the card itself work with other WAPs?
Check your network utility to see what the link status is (active vs. not active). There is the possibility that your wireless card just wonked out.

Hi Bo,
I am using apples airport card older version (not extreme).
I also tried the cardbus type card from my other Pismo, and that to does not register.
I also checked on the Network utility and it shows that the card is active because I get the signal stregth...
I am lost....

how about IP addresses? what is the IP address you are getting on the pismo vs. the other computers? and are you sure that there isn't some sort of MAC address filtering that was set up on your WAP?

...Let me track back, when I checked the Network Utility the card was not active. My mistake.
To answer your first question, I used to get the 19.168.xx.xx IP addresses but now, I get something if I can remember like 164.xx.xx.xx. (I am not in front of my computer to tell you exactly what this IP is).
On the other macs I am getting the 192.168.0.xx IP address.
As far as WAP, I have set up mac address filtering but checked that on all the AP's and the Router itself, ...its all there.

have you tried zapping PRAM? If not, at startup hold down command-option-P-R and keep holding it until you've heard the startup chime 5 times. PRAM holds certain hardware settings and if it's corrupted could cause some problems similar to the one you're experiencing. Also, does your cardbus thing work on the other pismo? if it does, the second thing to try would be to remove the airport card altogether and see if the cardbus wireless card will work then.

Hi Bo-
I did the reset as you suggested. Still the same
Regarding the cardbus, I have another Pismo thats got a cardbus type wireless card and it works fine on that machine, but if I install that same very card on my Pismo it does not work...with/without the Apple card installed.
So what does this mean?

I'm somewhat concerned that perhaps your en1 interface is simply fritzed out. I'll do some more research on the issue and get back to you; if you don't hear from me by monday, please send a message back (just in case I forget!)

Sure Thanks, and I am going to Starbucks to test it out just incase....

sounds good, lemme know how that goes too

Well...was at starbucks, could see the (tmobile) network, but same problem.
For some reason or the other the card does not want to receive the DHCP IP address. It self assigns an IP address.
Also what I have noticed is that, under the wireless icon on the mac's menu bar, I used to have a option for "other" and thats not there anymore. Now I can still get to this - but its via open internet connect, and in there I can select the "network" or "other". I don't know if this has got anything to do with the problem.
Thanks for your help.
Sam

hey sam, I hate to tell you this but I'm sort of at a loss for now. What I'll do is send you back to the open pool in case someone else has a fix, but I'll keep looking and if I find something I'll tack it on to your ticket. Good luck!

Thanks Bo-
I tired to use one of the card bus type cards and that works fine so I think I am going to buy a new card.
Thanks for all your help.
