I'm not sure if I'm asking this question in the right area.
I have a list of applications that are not responding on my computer:
Safari
Disk Utilities
Accounts
Installer
and probably more that I haven't discovered yet.
I don't know enough about my mac to fix this problem, I've tried reinstalling my operating system (OS X.3) and then downloading the updates for everything. I created a backup of my hard drive when doing the reinstall and I've been slowly moving my files back into place, particularly to get my netWare running again (which hasn't worked yet). I can't reinstall my netWare now because the installer does not work.
I'm looking for any help at all, I can't seem to fix this on my own.
thanks!

What do you mean by "not responding" ?
Do they quit just after starting (just a few jumps in the dock) ?

Safari will open a browser window and then part way through loading the home page it just freezes
Disk Utilities will open the interface and will list my hard drive but will freeze whenever I select anything
Accounts will just freeze whenever I click on it
The installer interface will come up but nothing ever loads in the window and all the buttons are grayed out.
For all these applications, after they freeze the spinning cursor appears.
I hope that is a little more clear.

Would it be only one, I would suggest you trash its preference file.
If all have problems, it looks like you have not enough disk space left, or not enough RAM. YOu should keep 3-5 GB free on your hard disk.

I have 47 GB of space free on my hard drive. Could you explain to me how I can delete my preferences - where I can find them and what they would be called.
Thanks!

The program preference are usually stored in the
/Library/Preference folder under the name com..plist
It can also be stored in you main account /Library/Preference folder.

The preferences for Safari, Disk Utility and Installer were in the user folder, I deleted them all and it didn't help. I also could not find a preference for the Accounts.
Do you know of any other solutions??

Did you "repair the disk permissions" ? To do that you should use the Disk Utility located in the Applications/Utilities folder.

The Disk Utilities is one of the programs that is not working.

When you re-install, do you make a clean install ?

I installed so that I had a backup folder created.
If I do a clean install I'll have to bring in a expert again to connect to the network here. I'm trying to solve the problem **myself** before calling in the tech.

Now that you have your backup folder created, can you backup it on CDs or DVDs, and then make a clean install ?
I'm afraid that for some reason one or another file autorisation is bad and blocks everything (including Disk Utility).
BTW, did you try this ?
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596 (backup first if possible)

I will try the link you provided and if that is unsuccessful I will do a clean install.
Thanks for the help!

Please give me the results of your experimentation.
Good luck.

I've re-installed my operating system and everything is working properly so far.
I tried to use the link you provided, but I couldn't install the program since the installer wasn't working.
I'm going to say that the experiment was successful - thanks for your help.
