DESCRIPTION:

Hello,
I have following problem : I use Windows 98, and everything worked well, but a few weeks ago, I don't know why, my cd-player doesn't play audio-cd's anymore.
The cd-player says that there is no audio-cd (or data only).
Other programs tell me that there are no cd-audio drivers installed and that I have to install the MCI audio driver. I want to do that, but I don't know how.
(According to the controll panel everything is fine and works well…)
Thanks

Hello,
Have you checked insided you computer? It might be that a cable has fallen off, because the CD drive, plays direct to the sound card. Have you run System Information, and the System File checker. This will check all the system files and tell you what has changed, also allow you to install the files from the Win98 CD.
Check your Sound card Drivers, make sure you have no conflicts, maybe a re-install, or de-install them, and let Windows 98 detect them and install them for you. Check your Volume control, make sure your volume is up (unlikely since it says you do not have an audio CD in the drive, but you never know)
Check your Contrl Panel, MultiMedia, and the CD Sound/Music option, does it have the right drive selected?
