I am looking for a MacOS X program to convert between various audio formats, in particular from ram/rm/ra to mp3. Any suggestions?

I tried dragging a .ram file onto the Garage Band timeline, but it didn't accept it.

Trevor, welcome on macosx.com

First of all, I would recommend Audacity from the OpenSource..yes, there are some additional libraries to install, but it is free !
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/about/features

Then fffmepgX, dedicated to encoding/decoding video, but can do the same job for audio files

Finally, I would think you can find what fits your needs from this page
