I'm in a bad way with my new imac computer. Yesterday, I transferred a few hundred fonts into >library >fonts. I restarted my computer, and finder crashes and crashes and re-boots, and crashes. I started from my install disk, used disk utility. then started in safe mode, deleted a load of fonts that were highlighted in red, (i'm not sure why any are highlighted, nor does the person that gave me the fonts). it worked last night until i started photoshop today. and it crashed again and again. i went and bought fusion suitcase, and started in safe mode, deleting any corrupt font. when i restarted again, it won't let me start in safe mode or regularly. i goes to the desktop, flashes finder on and off, and reboots with a rainbow wheel.

any idea of what to do next?

Alexia,

First off, you don't want to drag fonts into the font folder. It really makes your Mac angry. You want to INSTALL them using the Font Book application. Beware: fonts, even when not in use, eat up precious processor speed. The more fonts installed, the slower the computer. This is true on every operating system I've ever used. The key is to disable the font (in Font Book) that you don't use often. You can alway enable them if you need them.

After installing them, select them all (Edit>Select All) and then Validate them (File>Validate Fonts). Let the program scan your fonts to find errors. Any errors for a font mean that the font is damaged or compiled incorrectly. Throw those away and don't ever use them again. Those are the fonts that are hurting your computer.
