KNOWLEDGE LEVEL: Intermediate

PROBLEM: Combination
COMPUTER TYPE: CTX
MODEL: 200Mhz
RAM: 64meg
OS VERSION: Windows 95
SERVICE PACK: SR-2

DESCRIPTION:

When I recently installed my Seagate drive as a slave to the existing
Maxtor 82160D2 drive I received a window asking me to install "system board
extension for PnP BIOS". I closed the window and went on. New slave drive
installed ok, partioned ok. I copied files to the new slave drive. The new
slave drive seemed to be working ok from what I could tell.

Now when I open Control Panel, System, Device Manager, System Devices, the
"system board extension for PnP BIOS" entry is highliighted with a yellow
cicle and black exclamation point indiciating that the device is not
present, not working properly or all the drivers are not installed - code
10.

Why am I getting this error?

Why are the system files copied to my new slave drive (msdos.sys,
system.1st, command.com, io.sys)?

Where can I find the "system board extension for PnP BIOS"? I searched Microsoft's site but found nothing.

Hello Robert and welcome to NoWonder! The "system board extension for PnP BIOS" may be on your hard drive. Go to the Control Panel/System/Device Manger then do properties on the "system board extension for PnP BIOS". After that select Update or Change Driver. When it is done doing it's own search type in the location manually:
c:\windows\inf
If it ask for other files after that type 3 common folder are
c:\windows
c:\windows\system
c:\windows\help
Or just use your Windows95 CD.
If Windows can not find it, you must obtain a copy from the motherboard manufacture. The reason system files are on your slave drive is because it was formatted as a bootable drive. That will not cause any problems. Good luck!
