PROBLEM: Software
COMPUTER TYPE: IBM COMPATABLE
MODEL: AMD 586-133
RAM: 64meg
OS VERSION: Windows 95
SERVICE PACK: N/A
DESCRIPTION:
I have been running 95 since inception and not had any problems. I have installed/uninstalled several programs including McAfee virusscan and pc medic, all programs had uninstall features. Now in the past couple months the blue screen syndrom has become more and more prevelant. I have been told everything from reinstalling 95 to formating the drive. Easy if you can backup everything but I do not have that luxury. Question: Can 95 be uninstalled and then reinstalled without effecting any of the remaining programs, and if not where do I have to go look for the problems. The error trappings do not mean anything to me nor can I find any references on same. Fatal errors at Block ------ are hard to trace. All help appreciated.
Thank you
M.G. Hayner
Win 95 has no real "uninstall" program. You can run the setup.exe on the \win95\ directory on your cd... it will "layover" any win 95 files that are damaged, but you still keep your original registry... and it doesn't delete any files that can be safely deleted.
For a list of what you can delete, visit
http://www.annoyances.org/win95/win95ann1.html and look under "What you can throw away" and then download regclean at
http://www.download.com/PC/Result/Ti...ults.list.tdtl. If that 2nd URL doesn't work, try going to download.com and doing a search on regclean. Microsoft isn't releasing Regclean right now because they are in the middle of a long upgrade- but that just means you have to go to download.com for regclean.
Thanks
