Does your iMac have a SuperDrive?
If so, has it worked before?

You should find out for sure - Click on the Apple menu, and choose About This Mac. Click on the More Info button. System Profiler will open. Click on ATA or IDE tab. You should see 2 devices. One is your hard drive, the other is the CD/DVD, This should show that it is a Matshita or Pioneer or Sony or SomethingElse DVD-R/RW, or DVD/CD-RW or ?
What do you see here? - put as much detail as you want.
Are you sure you have never burned a DVD-R?

Good - Check the label on the disk you are trying - is it a DVD+R, or a DVD-R? This can make a difference if your Mac is as more than a year old.

dvd+r

Try a DVD-R
Apple has only recently supported DVD+R in all their new systems. Prior to about a year ago, only DVD-R was supported natively on all systems.

if I read your description correctly, your drive does not burn DVDs. It is listed as a Read only (R), not Read Write (RW).

I was told this 17' imac burns dvd's why would it say it has a CD-RW/DVD-R if it did not burn dvd's?

I was told this 17' imac burns dvd's why would it say it has a CD-RW/DVD-R if it did not burn dvd's? It also says under devises that disc burning is fully supported.

ATA Bus:
PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-117D:
Model: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-117D
This is the ATA Bus information on my G5 and as you can see, the DVE-RW is the description for a read/write dvd burner. Your unit, if it does not show this, will burn CD's but not DVDs. Can you find the ATA Bus info and send it to me so I can be sure this is the problem? Thanks.
