TICKET ARCHIVE -> Can't Drag Objects

i have a very similar problem to someone else on this board. i am unable to drag objects, whether it be on my desktop, in a folder, or even in adobe illustrator. this problem began right after a friend of mine tried installing an icon program called candybar on my computer. he quickly erased it when we saw the problems it was causing, so it was never even installed; it just sat on the desktop for 10 minutes.

however, the dragging problem is not all the time. it happens when i insert a cd or dvd. whenever i do that, any programs that i happen to have open shut down, the finder relaunches itself, and suddenly i am unable to drag. also, the appropriate programs (itunes or the dvd movie) do not automatically open. but when i manually open them, the cd or dvd reads just fine, but the lack of dragging persists.

i have not yet backed up my files (and there are a lot of them, as i'm a graphic designer), so any suggestions that will not endanger my files would be greatly appreciated. if there is a chance that my files could be lost, please alert me so that i don't try a suggestion and end up an unhappy girl.

thank you so much

Hi Eileen, I'm Dale, and I'll try to help.
You should let me know what version of OS X you are using.
sometimes, a simple permissions repair will get things working right agian.
If you have never done this. Open your Applications folder, and then open the Utilities folder you will find there. Then open the Disk Utility, and click the first Aid tab. click on your drive (in the left box), and then click Repair Permissions. When that completes, I usually immediately restart. Then try something that usually gives you problems. Hopefully this simple trick will be some help.
Come back with your system version, and if you still need help (There's a long laundry list of possible things to try, this is just the first.)
