Used Spring Cleaning recently. big mistake. One result is that when I try to open any document or icon that looks like a puzzle piece (like it might be named "virusbarrier.bundle") first of all they all look blank and white and this message comes up: "There is no default application specified to open the document" and it won't open.

I think something is seriously wrong.

What exactly are you trying to do? Yes, Spring Cleaning can definitely cause trouble, but why are you trying to open things in the System Library to start with?

The reason I even looked in the system file is because I was following the directions given by someone on this site re: how to remove anything to do with smith micro/allume/spring cleaning. I had started getting the "netblockade" message anytime I tried to run a video on youtube, which was due to spring cleaning.

If the blank documents in the system don't mean anything, I won't worry. I am just concerned about what that fucking program may have done to my poor little old emac, which is going slower and slower, which is why I tried it in the first place.

Your thoughts? and thanks for responding.

You want to be *very* careful not to remove anything from the System that you are not absolutely certain about. It's not that these items that have blank icons don't mean anything, it's that they don't open directly with any application you have, which doesn't mean you don't need them. The System is using them to run your computer.

I haven't used Spring Cleaning myself since a nearly disastrous trial run back in early OS 9 days, but it removed essential items then and I imagine it may be as bad or worse now.

First thing I would check is whether you have an install log from installing it? That would tell you what items it installed and where.

Can you send me a URL or copy of the discussion where the other tech recommended you remove whatever it was they recommended?

Here's a quote from another forum that may be useful, I'd try this:
"This programs implants NetBlockade which is practically impossible to delete. It effects many Web pages that you normally visit.

Thanks to one of the comments in this forum, if you download the application and then run the installer application again, using the UNINSTALL feature, you can get rid of the pesky NetBlockade and Net Cleanup as well."

has other useful tips on getting rid of Netblockade also.
