Description:
I have been running Mac OS 8.0 with no real problems and have used Norton Utilities 3.5.2 to solve any normal disk problems. Out of curiosity I decided to run Disk First Aid that is on my Hard Drive. It informed me that while problems might be found, it could not fix Startup Disk problems. I ran the program and it told me there were H.D. problems.
I then decided to restart with the System OS 8.0 CD-ROM which I used to install the system, and has "Disk First Aid" on it as an option. I held down the "c key" to be sure that the system started from the CD-ROM. Part way through the startup a "System Bomb" window appeared advising me to restart by holding the "shift key" down to prevent extensions from loading. I tried restarting by holding both the "c key" and the "Shift keys' down, but this simply resulted in booting up from the Hard Drive instead of the CD-ROM. I tried all variations, but I could not get the system to start from the CD-ROM.
What am I doing wrong? I have started before from the CD-ROM without problems, yet this time I am unable to do so to run Disk First Aid. This would also prevent me from installing or reinstalling anything from the original CD-ROM.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
