I've just moved to a new powerbook from an older G3.
I loaded os9 software which is running ok on the new powerbook g4 - but cannot print from any application.
When I go to the chooser the printer I want is available to be selected but the option to select the usb port is not available - no way for me to select a printer port.
Can you help?
thanks,
maggie11

Margaret,
My name is Cheryl and I will be assisting you. First, while this may seem silly, double check that the printer's USB cable is in snug at the printer and your powerbook. Make sure the printer is turned on.
Now go to the Chooser --- but at the same time hold down the Option and Apple Keys. You will hear an alert. Release the keys and the Chooser should come up. At the bottom right of the Chooser window is Appletalk. Make sure that is set to inactive.
Now select your printer and port. It should show up.

Hi Cheryl,
Thanks for responding so soon - I'm loosing my mind on this thing.
I did as you suggested and the printer is available to be selected but there is nothing available in the printer port screen to select.
Any other ideas?
many thanks, m

Margaret,
Try changing the port that you are connected to on the powerbook.
It could be a faulty USB cable. Do you have a spare USB cable you can try?
In the Chooser, there maybe several different icons for your printer. Try selecting a different icon for that printer.
What printer is it? Was this the same printer you used on your older machine?
One more thing, just to check on something. Open System Profiler and under hardware, see if it sees the USB printer.

Hi Cheryl,
It is a new Epson Stylus Photo RX600 printer - cable is brand new too
when you open system profiler on OS 9 it does not recognize the printer as connected. but it works fine in OS 10
Thanks again,

Margaret,
I think you need to install a new driver to OS 9.
First, Go to System Folder>Extensions.
Delete all the Epson files in there. Make sure you file the Photo RX600.
Then go here:
Driver
You need
Printer Driver v1.5aA
TWAIN Driver and EPSON Scan Utility v2.65A
Once downloaded, install them. You should be able to print after you restart the computer.
