I have an ATI Radeon 9200 mac edition video card and a 733 mhz g4 powermac.

Right now I have an Apple Studio Display connected and I want to connect a Sony PVM-1454QM monitor preferably without having to buy any more adaptors.

I have the cables that came with the video card. I was told I could connect the monitor through my camcorder but the video input is different from the av output on my camera.

Ottilie,

I'm Tom and I will be assisting you.

The connection method you mention is to use the camera as a firewire/digital video to analogue video converter. You would connect a firewire cable to your mac and cam and then connect your camera's video (analogue) output to a monitor. This is a common way for video edit systems to be set up.

You camera will more than likely output a "composite" video signal on a "phono" or "RCA" type connector. It may also have an sVideo connector also called a Y/C output.

From what I can find on the net about your monitor it has Component (which your camera will not work with), Y/C (or svideo) and Composite inputs, so you should not have any problems making the system work. I suspect the monitor has a BNC connector for its composite input. If it does you will need a phono to BNC adapter or cable with the right connectors. If there is an sVideo connector on your camera it would be best to use this connection as it will provide better picture quality. A simple svideo lead should do the job.

I hope this has helped you. feel free to get back to me on any of this.

regards

Tom
