TICKET ARCHIVE -> Connecting Xp to a Mac Airport

Hi,
I am trying to make my wireless airport network more secure. as of now the XP computer joins the mac wireless network automatically without having to select the wireless network and password. I know how to "close the network with my airport utilities with my mac but once that's done it locks out the PC and I don't know how to connect the PC to the airport base station (login to the wireless airport for xp). Any help would be appreciated

First off, encryption is completely un nessicary. All it does is block out people in your area from getting on your connection, and their is no reason for that! You see, they cant download large illigal files unless they maunually unblock ports on your router to give it permission. The only thing they could do is maybe look at illigal child porn and get you in trouble. Now, if you block the keywords child and porn from your router. They wont be able to do that, not just that, but that isnt very likely for people in your local area to get on your connection and look at child porn. There are sico's out there, but what are the odds that they will be in your local area? Just block child porn, and password protect your router.

Second, if you want to get into settings about encryption on your windows computer, there should be some software that came with your wireless adaptor on your windows computer. Install the software, and go into the settings.

I want to connect to the apple airport. How do I do that with the XP machine? Is there a network place that allows me to find the airport and login?

usually there is software that comes with your wireless adaptor that has all that. did you look at the software?

Yes, i have the utility software for the airport on the macintosh. The pc is hard wired to the airport itself through a cat 5e connection. When I uses the airport utility on the macintosh and "close the network" the pc (XP) is unbale to get out to the imternet. I think what i need is to go on the pc (XP) and login to the airport base station. I don't know how to do that on the pc. Basically I need to logon to the airport from the pc to get it on the network. Any ideas?

well what about this, take the fucking encryption security shit off. lol

All that does is keep neighbors out of your network, they cant do anything to your connection, the only person that makes happy is the owner of your isp. And there is no law that says that you have to have a secured network. Take the encryption off, then tell me what happends.

That's the point, I get charged on usage per month. Anything over 3 gig up and down I get charge. This is WHY I want a secure wireless connection. I caught an asshole sitting in a car outside my house using my connection. Do you understand why now???
I want to "close the network" in the airport utility but when I do that it cuts off the pc. I don't know how to logon the pc to the airport after I close the network. That's all I want to do is know how to logon the pc to the airport so the pc can be connected to the internet.

If that doesnt work, Windows has wep encryption that it uses all the time, why dont you switch to an encryption format that they can both use. Mac can do pretty much anything windows can usually.
