Hi - I have 2 internal hard drives, each is partitioned into 2 parts. OS X is installed on the first hard drive, section 1.
I just had an occurance of the color wheel when I selected the 2nd hard drive - it did not go away and so I did a hard restart by holding the button on the CPU (Blue G4).
When it restarted, hard drive no. 2 both parts were not on the desktop anymore.
I opened Disk Utility and hard drive no. 2 both parts missing from the list.
I started using disk 1 of my OS X Panther installation set and opened disk utility - not there either.
Have restarted several times but it doesn't come back.
Checked system profiler - not there either.
Have had to hard restart at other times but never had this happen.
Help?
thanks,
Dan
If your number 2 drive has 2 partitions, then you should see 3 items in the list in Disk Utility. The device, such as 74.5 GB ST380013A (from my system), and 2 entries for the volumes, underneath the device entry. Do you see the device entry for you #2 drive? if you do, then try a Repair Disk. If the disk reports repairs, then try this again, until the repair passes with no repairs.
If you don't see the device entry, then your drive may have failed. If you have some other disk repair software, such as DiskWarrior, you can try that, but it may report the same problem...

HI - thanks for reply - I could only see the #1 hard drive, both parts.
But I did this: I opened the mac and pressed on the data and power connections to both drives to make certain they were tight - and both drives are now visible. Not sure I have any idea whatsoever of why they would not make perfect contact - but for now, it appears to have been the problem.
thanks again for replying so quickly.
