i have purchased a pioneer DVR-109 DVD-RW hard drive----i just did a clean install of os 9.22 for classic and run os 10.2.8 and when i put a cd in the drive it is not recognized as an icon on the drive------sometimes and i mean sometimes it is, but mostly it is not----one of my programs requires the disk to be inserted to work-----how can i rectify this----also, when it is recognized, i have tried to make a disk image of it on the desktop, so it won't be a problem anymore, but disk copy couldn't do it, nor could toast titanium 5.2--------i get an I/O error from toast----i have really been struggling and with help from this site i have taken baby steps to get closer to being fully operational-----this is the only problem i seem to be having that is major------sometimes i cannot open .smi or .dmg files, but i can move on with that still occurring----i really do appreciate the advice i've gotten here and i hope that you can help me over this last hurdle

That particular drive model is relatively new. It did not exist when Jaguar was released so I'm pretty sure there is no support for it. Upgrading to Panther or Tiger would likely resolve the problem.

However, you can try a utility called PatchBurn (www.versiontracker.com) to see if it can get the drive to work with Jaguar. Be sure to get the version of PatchBurn that works with Jaguar.

i just tried to re-install patchburn again and it said that i had a driver for my dvd burner-----so i don't know why the desktop does not recognize this.....toast titanium 5.2 see's the disk and will copy it....will try to put disk image of it on desktop.....maybe that would suffice?

thanks again

I think you will continue to have problems with the drive until you upgrade OS X. As I said before this drive model is very new and came out long after Jaguar was released, so you would need to upgrade OS X in order to gain support for it. Otherwise, you can use the drive via Toast since it seems to be able to work with the drive. It's even possible iTunes may work with it.

If you buy Panther be sure you get the standard retail Panther diskset. Some sellers are selling OEM versions (do not buy them) or Upgrade versions (don't buy, either.)
