I have a IMAC G3 that has been up-graded to MAC OS X, version 10.2.8
My problem---> every since the up-grade my e-mail and especially web-sites over run the screen. In other words I have to move the window to the left and stretch the window sometimes up to 4 inches to get the whole picture or read the whole text.
Is there anything I can do? I've checked and made sure all the peramiters in the preferences is set the same as my wifes G4 (which works as it should) to no avail.
Also... large words over-lap so they are all run together and indecipherable.....
Help please.... It's making me nuts....Mike

Mike,

My name is Cheryl and I will be assisting you. It sounds like you have Universal Access turned on.
Go to the System Preferences (light switch in the dock) and click on Universal Access. The window pane will change. Click on the Seeing button. Now Click on the first section Turn off Zoom. It should now read Turn on Zoom.

Double check the font size for Mail and Safari (I assume this is the browser you are using). In Mail go to the mail Menu and select Preferences. When the window opens, select Fonts & Colors. You should be using 10 or 12 pt with your selection of font.

In Safari, go to the Safari Menu and select Preferences. Click on the Appearance icon in the window that opens and check the font and size selected. You should be using 14 or 16 pt with your selection of font - the default is Helvetica 16 and Geneva 14.

This should correct your problems.

Hi Cheryl,
Thanks for your time... I opened the system preferences as you suggested but... there is no Universal Access icon/button anywhere to be found. I've searched around to no avail.....
Could it be somewhere by a different name ? Maybe this is the problem ? ....Mike

Mike,

It could be that the system preferences are not showing all of the panes.

Open System Preferences - then go to the View menu and select Organize Alphabetically. Now Universal Access should be at the bottom of the window. The icon is a blue circle with a man in the middle.

Do you have the OS X (10.2) CD handy?

Hi again Cheryl,
OK... I found the Universal Access and proceeded as suggested. Now I can change the font size. (also found I can do the same by hitting option and + or -) But.... the window (picture) is still larger than my monitor screen. I still have to scroll right & down to see the whole page as it is on my wife's computer.....
??? Can you think of anything else ?
I'm a musician and I spend lots of time on web-sites booking my European tours. As a for instance... my web-site is
http://www.michaelballew.com . when I look at this web-site the W in BALLEW is cut off on the right side and the bottom cuts off at Nottingham in the News & Quotes. But... my screen is filled with that limited picture. I hope I'm painting a clear picture of my problem. It's more a real pain in the #@$ than it is a problem.
I do appreciate your assistance....Mike

Mike,

You have painted a very good picture.

With Safari open, go to the Safari Menu and select Preferences. When that window opens, click on the Advanced icon.

Now uncheck the first two boxes. Make sure Style Sheet is set to None Selected. Close the preference window.

Now go to the Safari Menu and select Empty Cache. (not reset Safari - as you will lose your bookmarks). A dialog box will come up asking if you are sure. Click on Empty.

Now go to the History Menu and select Clear History. Quit Safari. Now give it a try by launching it and going to your web site.

Is it better?

If not, quit Safari, then go to your Home folder>Library folder> Preference folder.
Go to the view menu and select by list. This will put everything in Alpha order. Now locate and trash the com.apple.Safari.plist.

Empty the trash. Launch Safari. Is this better?

Hi Cheryl,
I've just kind of given up on it. I do use Enternet Explorer by the way. I tried to switch to Safari but my book marks and favorites won't transfer over and I have so many it's a mess.
Anymore suggestions. I'll make one more try...Mike

Mike,

Do you have any third party plugins installed for Safari, like PitHelmet, SAFT, or Safari Enhancer? That could be causing the problem. Once you remove them, see if Safari works better.

Also, do you have any Norton programs installed like Norton Internet Security? Uninstall that - then give Safari a try.

The next step would be to reinstall Safari. It really is not that hard.

copy your bookmarks (Users/username/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist to a safe location then trash Safari and reinstall. Remove the app, the Library folder (Users/username/Library/Safari/), the Caches folder (Users/username/Library/Caches/Safari/), and your Preferences file (Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist). Do that for every user on the computer, then empty your trash. Download a fresh copy of Safari from Apple's site

http://www.apple.com/safari/download/

and install.
