After the download, I click on the Windows Media.sitx icon. A message comes up:
Open Directory
Unable to read the dictionary of the application or extension because it is not scriptable.
Click OK, another message:
! The document "Windows Media.sitx" could not be opened. Script Editor cannot open files in the "Script Editor Document" format.
How do I go about getting windows media player?
Thanks.

On that file do 'Command-I' to get the Get Info window. See what program is set to open it.

changed it to stuffit expander.
now it says: The file does not appear to be compressed or encoded. It is advised that you obtain more information about the provider or sender. It will help to know what program created the file and what operating systems the file can be used on.
any ideas?
thanks for all the help.

The problem is that 10.4 (Tiger) didn't come with Stuffit.
I've zipped Windows Media Player and pout it here;
http://homepage.mac.com/maktek/WindowsMediaPlayer.zip
You should be able to download and open it.

Awesome! I definitely have it on my computer now!
Hopefully the last question: How do I get it to be a recognizable internet plug-in?
I can't thank you enough for your consistent and great help!

Josh
Open the Internet Plug-ins folder here;
Library/Internet Plug-ins
See if the Windows Media Player plugin is in there. Do this after you've opened the program at least once.

Bob,
There is absolutely nothing in the internet plug-in folder. Should I move WMP to that folder?
Should anything else be in that folder?
Thanks as always.

Josh
Download the plugin here;
http://homepage.mac.com/maktek/WindowsMediaPlugin.zip
Unzip it, then put a space between the words like this;
Windows Media Plugin
Then put it in the Plugin folder.

Hey Bob,
I tried to unzip the last WMP you sent me but I got those orignial messages about scrip editor and stuffit.
New idea?
Also, I tried moving the WMP that did unzip to the internet plug in folder, but it is not being recognized as a plug in. Example, I tried to watch a news piece from CNN.com and I still get the no plug in detected.
Thanks for the help.

The problem with cnn.com is that it's not Mac compatible. A lot of sites aren't as far as video goes.

Okay then. Well, I have WMP in my plug-in folder and hopefully it will work when I find a site that is mac compatable.
Just want to say thank you so much for all your help.
