I receive .eml files as attachments to emails; I double-click on the download and there is a brief Converting to Text, but the resulting file is gobbledy-gook. How can I access .eml files? ISP is
AOL. Running OS 10.2.3. TIA.

i saw this when googling for .eml files
'An EML file is simply an RFC822 email file. It's not use for Stationary, fonts, or anything else -- it's just an email.'
also this -
'Note: .EML files are used by other E-mail clients as well. Note: .EML files with "funny" names in multiple folders implies the Nimda worm. OE removes access to attachments using this file extension. However, using forward on the tool bar in OE the attachment shows as an envelope that if clicked opens the attachment (use caution if you do this, it could be a worm). Note: This file type can become infected and should be carefully scanned if someone sends you a file with this extension.'
So - I would recommend asking the sender what attachment they are sending, so you will know that it's worth your time and effort to try to open this. Keep in mind that attachments to emails should not be viewed as 'friendly' if you know the person DID NOT send an attachment, and you should ignore the attachment (or send it on to a Windows user if you want to hear back from them in a hurry!)
Bottom Line - you should not expect to be able to open .eml attachments and it will be best if you just ignore them.
