I am new to Mac and have been very happy with the switch. However, I have a little problem setting up my printer. The printer has a fixed IP address and I was able to set it up fine on one of my two G4 e-macs. However, on the second e-mac, when I try to add the printer, it sees it (through Appletalk), but when I try to select the type of printer, Epson is not even listed!
The computer is a 1 GHz Ge e-mac running Panther 10.3.9 and the printer is an Epson Stylus C62.
I tried downloading a driver from Epson, but that didn't do the trick.
If I share it through the other e-mac, it works fine, but then I can't print if the parent computer is sleeping.
Any suggestions?

Hi! My name is Dale. I have an answer for you.
Correct me if I'm wrong.. You have an Epson C62 directly connected to one of your eMacs using a USB cable.
You did mention how you can get it to work from your 2nd eMac with printer sharing, and that's the normal procedure. The eMac that is the 'parent' computer is the controller for the printer, and must be powered on, and awake for the printer to work from the 2nd computer.
If your Epson C62 is not using a USB connection, then come back here, and let me know how it is physically connected.

Thanks for the reply, Dale. Sorry I wasn't clear about the connections.
E-mac #1 is directly connected to the router.
E-mac #2 is wireless with an Airport Extreme -- no problems, I can see the internet, the other e-mac and the printer.
The Epson C-62 is directly on the router with a D-link DP-101P+ print server.
I set up E-mac #1 by going to "Set up Printers", looking for Appletalk printers, and selecting the proper model from the drop-down box -- no trouble.
I went to e-mac #2 and tried the same thing which worked exactly the same way until I looked for the printer model. Epson is not listed as a manufacturer, and none of the other model types I tried worked. Generic post-script printer doesn't work, either.
Can you help?

I think the main problem preventing you from printing from eMac #2 is the wireless connection. The Epson C62 drivers probably will not support this, although I think you can if connected to an Airport base station.
The Epson printer does not use AppleTalk. That would only be supported on most printers that have driver network support. The AppleTalk support is most likely provided by your print server, and you shouldn't need it. You may want to try IP printing, and enter the IP address for the printer through the print server, if you know what it is.

I did try IP printing, but with the same result -- although several other manufacturers are listed, Epson is not. Why would there be a static list that doesn't include Epson?
Also, Appletalk works fine with the Epson, as evidenced by e-mac #1, because the print server provides the appletalk interface. I can see the printer through appletalk, that's not a problem. The problem is that the Epson drivers are nowhere to be found.
I just tried setting up this printer with my wife's ibook directly connected to the router -- with the same result. Is there some way to add printer manufacturers to the list of models? Both e-mac #2 and the ibook have Apple, HP, Tektronix and some others listed, but no Epson.
Both these computers have the latest OSX updates too.

You can try a custom install from the Panther Install CD, and choose to install ONLY the Epson printer drivers. You can un-check everything else on the Panther install. This is the only place you can get the Panther compatible drivers for the C62 printer, AFAIK. Epson drivers are too old.
You'll find there are 2 sets of Epson drivers on the Panther installer, Epson 2 set is for older printers, and you won't need the Epson 2 set.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot!
