Knowledge Level: Intermediate
Problem: Software
Computer Type: Apple
Model: 8600/300
RAM: 64meg
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: MacOS 8

Description:
Yesterday I was transferring information from my internal zip disk to a floppy disk when my screen locked up, later an error message: "error type 41, to temporarily turn off extensions, restart and hold down the shift key." appeared on the screen. I have restarted until I am blue in the face to no avail. I have tried reinstalling OS8 and the system software that came with my new computer, but nothing. I am able to work from the start up cds, but not print and when I try to restart I am right back into the error message loop. I can use my zip drive, transfer info. to floppies, just not restart with any success.

Lynette.

Help, I am at my wit's end.

I am having you respond to my boss's email because I can't get to that either.

Lynette,
A few questions, to help us diagnose this problem:
1. Is it Error 41 (which I don't recognize) or Error -41?
2. What exactly do you do while you're restarting until you're blue in the face? Hold down the SHIFT key? Anything else?
3. What is the exact sequence of things that happen when you restart? What are the sounds? What screens come up? What do they say? Have any extensions loaded (icons on bottom of the screen) when you freeze? Etc.
Please get back to me.
