Tom,
Go to Applications>Utilities and start up Disk Utility. When that opens, click on the second hard drive icon at the top left, then click on Repair Permissions.
When done, quit Disk Utility and give the DVD a try.
Is this DVD a commercial one, or a burned one? Does this happen with all DVDs or just one in particular?
--------
Let me know if you need further assistance and thank you for using MacOSX.com !
