Is it at all possible to run EXE files on a Mac system. Either OS9 or OSX? Preferably without having to install Virtual PC.
Thanks

.EXE are Windows executable files. They cannot run on a Mac (without using Virtual PC)
I have seen some .exe files that are just compressed files, but these would not be an app that could run on a Mac, can't do it.

Thanks. Is Virtual PC viable, and idiot proof?!!

What kind of question is that - 'idiot-proof'?
Virtual PC provides you with a means to run Windows on the Mac, and does a good job of that. You do need a good amount of memory to allow VPC to run Windows
Most users that I know, use VPC because they have software that is only available for Windows, or must communicate through a Windows network of some kind.
what sort of software do you need to use that can't be found for the Mac?

Ok. Perhaps idiot proof is a bit harsh! I have a friend with a newly acquired mac laptop. He is akin to the computer antichrist and knows nothing about computers, but is trying hard. He has a bunch of cd roms that have exe files on them for what he is studying, and needs to be able to access them. If he'd told me about it prior I could have advised him, but at least with a mac platform I can teach and help him with all his other things. He was coming along quite well until he brought me these cds to find out why he couldn't run them. Is it possible to have them converted, or do you think virtual pc is the viable alternative? His G4 has a heap of memory. I'm envious! Thanks.

The virtual PC will allow these CDs to be used on a Mac

Thanks Dale. I'll sort it out for him.
