TICKET ARCHIVE -> Filevault Has Stolen My Login

Okay...

I just bought a mac mini a couple of days ago and decided that it'd be fun to play with FileVault, just to see how secure I could make mah mac.

So I turned it on.

When the process was almost finished, I decided to cancel. FileVault never finished cancelling; it sort of hung, and I got frustrated, and restarted my mac.

Well...now it won't log in under my normal account, but it'll log in on every other account I create. Even root gets to log in. But not my account.

And, frankly, this is frustrating.

I've tried resetting the password, killing off the keyring...everything...and nothing seems to work.

Is there anything else I can do, short of deleting all of my files and starting from scratch?

I'm using Tiger.

No I am sorry this is not avoidable

You have to do a reinstall I would suggest wiping the hard drive

You see I have read in instructions about File Vault "If you forget your password or something goes wrong you will not be able to get your files back they are gone forever"

This sadly is the downside to such secure encryption (128-bit)

So you must do a reinstall, I would definetely suggest an erase and install

sorry

Nope. I already deleted the login, but I think I figured out what was wrong after the fact (and after losing all of my files).

I realized that the window manager was refusing to load.

I could eject inserted disks and change the volume settings, and I got those overlay-style things with the volume bar and the eject symbol, without problem. The mouse worked, and I could click and everything else.

The files had filevault protection on them, which was weird, seeing as how I tried cancelling the transaction. I suppose this could be a bug on Apple's part?

Ah, well. Thanks for your help regarding this matter. ^_^
