I cannot open the fonts for classic. My Font book shows Users, Computer, however for Classic Mac OS it is Off. I can't click it on, and I can't add Fonts to it. The thing just keeps circling like it is doing something then it just stops. I am a designer and I need my Fonts to work on Classic, please help.

Howdy!
Make sure all your classic fonts are in your OS 9 system folder so they are read by classic when it runs. Do you use ~ATM software to run your fonts in classic?
To test, boot up in OS 9 and make sure all the fonts load that you want to access. Then reboot in OS X (you can hold the "x" key down on restart to force an OS X reboot) and open your classic app. Your fonts should show up.
Let me know what happens either way.

Hi Nathan, I probably should have mentioned that I am not using anything else but Font book in the last message. So there is no conflict there.
Here's the scoop, my system fonts are showing in my Classic Mac OS system folder more fonts than what actually load. That is why I am confused. I have access to some fonts in Classic, but not all the ones I need. When I open the system folder I see lots of fonts in Classic, (all the fonts I would need when I open up a classic app.) BIG Problem is that only some fonts are showing up when I open an application in classic. I should also mention in Font book that all the fonts are showing in font book under classic as well. So I am not sure how to troubleshoot what it is saying is there and what is actually showing up in classic mode.
Also, I have reloaded programs just in case... I am not sure what else I need to do...
Any insight will be most helpful.

I also want to add that the Fonts are showing up in User 174 fonts, in Computer there are 66 fonts, but in Classic Mac Os off there are 0 fonts. I looked in the system folder classic and there are fonts there. So I want to know a) how to reset font book, b) or how to reload font book so that I can access my fonts in Os X and Classic.
Please note when classic now says "off" in font book, I try to enable and install fonts and it won't let me.

If you follow my previous instructions, and the fonts are activated in OS 9, you won't have to try to activate them in FontBook. To my knowledge I don't think you can manage classic fonts in os x, but I'll check my computer at work that has 10.3 (home comp has 10.2.8) to verify this.

I did try your suggestion. It doesn't appear to be working. I know that there is something wrong, because all this worked 48 hours ago. I have no idea why I cannot use the fonts that I had been previously using in Classic. Now the fonts have diminished. I had 176 fonts originally, now I have 0 that shows up in Font book. I need to know how to reset font book, reinstall it, whatever it takes to get the fonts I previously had available in Font book under Classic.
Again, the Classic system folder shows fonts that I have in the system folder but they do not come up in the application. Only a handful come up.

Have you recently upgraded your system or installed any new software?
Have you repaired permissions yet?

Yes, I had just upgraded to 10.3.9 when all this started to happen with font book. I was on 10.3.8 previously. I don't know how to repair permissions if you can please help me. THANKS.

You might be having an upgrade issue with 10.3.9…will check on that.
Repair Permissions: Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility/"repair permissions". You have to select your main hard drive, not the first icon but the second. Then the grayed out "repair permissions" will become available.
