Bob had a good suggestions for my dilemma of a forgotten password, suggesting holding down the C key when booting from the OS disc. Unfortunately, I don't have the OS disk. Any other suggestions? Thanks

Not really. That is the only way on Mac OS X that I know of to "Reset the Password" if you have lost or forgotten the password. Cant borrow one from a friend?
