Knowledge Level: Intermediate

Problem: Hardware
Computer Type: Apple
Model: G3 266 MT
RAM: 65+
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: MacOS 8.1

Description:
I recently purchased a G3 266 MT to replace a Centris 650. I also purchased a Sony 400PS 19" monitor. I added VRam to my G3 so it now has 6MB. Even though the control panel for monitors shows options up to 1280X1024, I can only use 1152X870 at thousands of colors or 832X624 at millions of colors. If I try to exceed these figures I get distortion on the lower part of the screen. Apple says the G3 will support more than this, and Sony sent me a different adapter which didn't help. I would like to be able to use
1152X870 at millions of colors. What is wrong?

Hello Robert and Welcome to No Wonder!

Other than switching out your adapter my only other thoughts would be that maybe you've got a defective monitor or faulty VRAM. Do you have access to another monitor that you can use to test these higher resolutions? I'd give that a shot and if it works with another monitor you'll know that the problem is with your new Sony and you can return it under waranty.

Good Luck,

Kristina
