Description:
I have a simple question. I was searching for a program
similar to Guard Dog by Cybermedia for the Macintosh. A program that helps protect your system while surfing the net.

Thanks,
Mosiah

Dear Mosiah,

A program like Guard Dog is unnecessary for a Macintosh. Unlike a PC, Macs are not susceptible to most forms of file corruption and viruses. Also, it is very easy to turn off intrusive Internet objects, like cookies. If you are in Netscape, simply go to your Preferences, and into the Advanced subcategory, and uncheck the "Accept All Cookies" feature. You system will not accept cookies any longer. Macs are generally not susceptible to Java intrusion, so this should not be a concern. For viruses, the best solution is Virex, which can automatically monitor downloads and scan the system for viruses at regular intervals. These steps will duplicate the protection Guard Dog gives a PC. In reality, most of the problems PCs have will not infect Macs.

Hope that helps.
